This article looks at the Custom Field types available in GoodCRM, how they display and how they work.

Checkbox

A checkbox is a single, checkable box with text displayed to the right hand side.

Checklist

A checklist is a set of checkable boxes with text displayed to the right hand side. Any number of boxes in a checklist can be checked.

Connections

Connections Fields are amongst the most powerful field types in GoodCRM. They allow you to connect anything in your CRM to anything else, for example a Person to their Organisation, a Parent to a Child, or a Project Manager to a Project.

You can use these connections in your data to answer day-to-day questions like:

"Who is running the workshop next week?"

You can also use them for Segmentation and Reporting, for example:

"Show me a demographic breakdown and engagement numbers of people who participated in projects funded by Arts Council England last quarter."

It is possible to add new connections directly into a form too:

You'll often allow multiple values in your connections field, however if not, the field will display more like a dropdown - although the options for a single-value connection field are searchable:

Data from Connections fields cannot be displayed in Statistics views.


Date

Date fields allow you to select a valid date, this can be useful for running segments such as:

"Find all events where date is before 01/01/2023"

Date fields support Multiple Values allowing multiple dates to be added for a single field and are often used in conjuction with Time fields.

Data from Date Fields cannot be displayed in Statistics views.


Dropdown

Dropdown fields display lists where one option can be chosen.

Dropdowns are particularly useful when there are lots of options as the options fold away, where there are fewer options, consider a Radio List.

Core fields such as Title on the Person data-type may not display in Statistics views.


File

File fields allow you to upload a number of supported file types.

Supported formats for file uploads are:

.jpg, .png, .gif, .pdf, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .rtf, .txt, .msg, .csv, .ppt, .pptx

Please contact support should you need to upload a different format.

File fields support Multiple Values, allowing more than one file to be uploaded.

Data from File Fields cannot be displayed in Statistics views, and will not appear in exported spreadsheets.


Image

Image fields allow you to upload a number of supported image file types.

When an image is selected, a preview appears:

Supported formats for file uploads are:

.jpg, .png, .gif

Please contact support should you need to upload a different format.

Image fields support Multiple Values, allowing more than one image to be uploaded.

Data from Image Fields cannot be displayed in Statistics views, and will not appear in exported spreadsheets.


Long Text

Long Text fields are used for capturing larger amounts of text with multiple lines.

Long text fields support over 65,000 characters.

Data from Long Text Fields cannot be displayed in Statistics views.


Multi-select Lists

Multi-selects lists provide a list of options allowing for multiple options to be selected.

Consider using a Checklist fields instead as they're more user-friendly.

Radio List

A Radio List is a set of selections with text displayed to the right hand side. One option in a radio list can be checked.

Radio Lists are particularly suited when there are only a few options, because all options are listed on the screen. For longer lists, consider a Dropdown list.

Short Text

Short Text fields are used for capturing single lines of text, useful for attributes such as Names, Email addresses, Phone numbers and so on.

Long text fields support 255 characters and support Multiple Values, allowing more than one response to be added for a single field.

Add a Numeric Validation to your Short Text field via the Form Editor in order to see Totals and Averages Statistics views.

Non-numerical data from Short Text Fields cannot be displayed in Statistics views.


Tags

Tags fields hold tags and are useful for classification and segmentation of your data.

Tags Fields are linked to lists of Tags called Tag Types.

Data from Tags Fields cannot be displayed in Statistics views.


Time

Time fields, often used in conjunction with Date fields, allow a time to be

Time fields support Multiple Values, allowing more than one response to be added for a single field.

Data from Time Fields cannot be displayed in Statistics views.
