Settings you apply to form fields in the form builder allow you to tailor forms for particular audiences and enforce rules and validation. Learn about all of the settings available and what they do.

Allow new connection
Used on Connections Fields, if checked, a plus icon appears to the right of the field, when clicked this opens a new form allowing a new record to be added which will then be selected in the connection field.

Allow new connection is available for Connections Fields.
Allow new tags
Used on Tags Fields, if checked, new tags can be added via the form, even if they don't already exist in the Tag Type. New tags will be added to the Tag Type meaning they will be available to choose from this type of field in the future. If unchecked, only existing tags will be selectable.
Allow new tags is available for Tags Fields.
Connection creation form
Used on Connections Fields in conjunction with the Allow new connection setting. If a user clicks on the + button to add a new connection, this setting determines which form will open to create the new record.

Field validation
Used on Short Text Fields, Field Validation allows you to require a specific format to be entered. The validations available are:
Email address - only a valid email address can be entered
Numerical - only a number can be added
Field validation is available for Short Text fields.
Help Text
Help text sits in two fields, the first for a heading, and the second for content.
When populated, the form field label will gain a question mark icon, which, when hovered over, displays the help text.

Help Text is available for all form fields and elements except for:

Label
The label is what displays alongside the field in the form.
By default, the label from the chosen custom field populates the form label, however, you can simply type over this label to change it.
Changing a label on a form does not change the label on the underlying custom field or the labels on any other forms.
Label is available for all form fields and elements, the label will not display on the form for the following elements:
Headings
Instructions
Dividers
Limit options by segment
Used on Connections Fields, this setting means that options that appear in a connection field are limited to members of a specific segment. For example, you could create a segment which finds your staff, and use this setting to create a Connections Field that only allows people to choose staff members.

Long label
Used on Checkbox fields, The Long label displays to the right of the checkbox.
By default, the long label from the chosen checkbox field populates the form label, however, you can simply type over this long label to change it.
Changing a long label on a form does not change the long label on the underlying custom field or the long labels on any other forms.

Max values
Used on fields that support Multiple Values - this allows you to apply a limit to the number of values that can be added.
0 means no limit, 1 means one value can be added and so on.
For example, this might limit the number of email addresses that can be added on a person's profile on the Email field.

Placeholder text
Used for Short Text fields, this setting determines the placeholder text that appears in an empty field to give people guidance as to the type of data to enter.

Placeholder text is available for Short Text fields.
Required field
Available for all fields, this toggle makes a field required, meaning the form cannot be submitted whilst this field is empty.
On the form, required fields display a red asterisk.
Required field can be applied to any custom field or block.
